How quickly can you get to me?
Ring and tell us exactly where you are, and we will give you a straight ETA for that job rather than a vague window. We work from Rotherham and cover Sheffield, Rotherham, Chesterfield and Derbyshire, so the honest answer depends on where you are and what we are already on.
Are you really available 24 hours?
Yes. A.O Recovery answers 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, including nights, weekends and bank holidays. Breakdowns do not keep office hours. If it is three in the morning and you are stuck, ring anyway — that is when most recovery work happens.
How much does vehicle recovery cost?
There is no meter and no surprise. Tell us where the vehicle is, where it needs to go and what has happened to it, and we will give you a price on the phone before we set off. If it is a longer transport job, we quote that up front too.
What areas do you cover?
Sheffield, Rotherham, Chesterfield and Derbyshire as standard, from a base in Rotherham. That takes in the M1 corridor, the M18, and the roads out into the Peak District. Longer transport jobs elsewhere in the country are arranged in advance. If you are not sure we reach you, just ring and ask.
What can you recover?
Cars and vans, whether they have broken down, will not start, are stuck off the road, or have been in an accident. If you are not sure a vehicle can be moved, send us a photo and we will tell you straight whether it is a job we can take on.
My car is off the road, in a ditch. Can you get it out?
Yes, that is a winch recovery. The vehicle is pulled back onto the road under control rather than dragged, so the recovery itself does not add to the damage. Verges, ditches, banks and dry-stone walls are ordinary work on Derbyshire and Peak District roads.
Can you recover a car after an accident?
Yes. We make the scene safe with cones and lights, get the damaged vehicle off the carriageway, and take it where it needs to go. You deal with the other driver and the insurer; the vehicle is our problem, not yours.
Do you buy cars?
Yes, at trade price, running or not. If a vehicle has failed its MOT, will not start again, or is not worth the cost of recovering, ask for a price before you scrap it. Send a photo and the registration and we will tell you what we can pay.
Do I have to be with the vehicle?
Not always. If the keys and access can be sorted out, we can collect a vehicle you are not standing next to — useful for a car left at a garage, a sold vehicle, or a project car in a driveway. Say so when you ring and we will tell you what we need.
What should I do while I wait for recovery?
Get off the carriageway if the vehicle still moves, put the hazards on, and get everyone out on the left-hand side and behind a barrier. Do not sit in the car on a live road. Then ring 07394 784531 with your exact location — a marker post, junction number or what3words.
